The project designed has been implemented by SWOAD
organization with the financial
assistance provided by EU-UNDP with the main objective of carrying out
activities such as providing livelihood support for vulnerable persons
living in Pothuvil, Thirukkovil,
Alayadivembu, Sammanthurai , Navithanveli, and Irakkamam divisional
secretariats of Ampara district, mobilizing the community based organizations ,
creating awareness on protection of coastal areas and providing training among
male and female youths on leadership and good governance.
Nearly a sum of Rs.9.6 million has been allocated for promoting
livelihood of vulnerable persons by way of distributing tools and equipment for
them to engage in employment activities. Accordingly, 480 beneficiaries have
been identified on the first phase and support provided for 300 beneficiaries.
In pursuance of these activities, a program of distributing tools and equipment
for the rest of the beneficiaries (180) has been organized at the Conference
Hall of SWOAD organization in Akkaraipattu on 15.06.2017
At this program presided by Mr. V.Paramsigam,
the President of SWOAD, Mr. Thusitha Vanigasinghe, the Government of Agent of
Ampara district participated as the chief guest and graced it. Besides, Mr.
Gunapalan, the Deed of South Eastern University Management, Dr. Miss. Anusia
Senathirajah, the Senior Lecturer, Mr. Manoj, the Field Associate of SDDP project for Ampara
district and the Assistant Secretary and Planning directors have also
participated and graced the occasion.
This project has been implemented with monitoring and guidance
provided by Mr.K;Premalathan, the Program Manager and Mr. Y.Sugendrarajah, the
project officer of SWOAD organization.
It is notable that the SWOAD has been an NGO established in 1995 by Mr. S.Sethurajah and guided its
activities for the welfare of communities during the war situation and the tidal waves
that erupted. He mobilized funding from international communities for the purpose and won the
hearts of people at district and international level.
